How to Choose Your Outdoor Plus Fire Pit or Fire Bowl
The Outdoor Plus · Buyer’s guide
Every fire pit and fire bowl from The Outdoor Plus is handcrafted in Southern California and built to order. That’s wonderful — and it also means a few choices are yours to make. This guide walks you through them in about five minutes, so you can order with complete confidence.
Step 1
Fire pit, fire bowl or fire & water bowl?
Fire pit or fire table
A low, wide piece that seating arranges around. The heart of a conversation area, with room on the ledge for a drink.
Fire bowl
A bowl-shaped fire feature for pool edges, pillars, entrances and patios. Often used in pairs for a symmetrical, architectural look.
Fire & water bowl
A flame on top with a waterfall spilling into your pool — a true showpiece for pool and landscape designs.
Fire sculptures & towers
Vertical, design-led pieces that add height and drama to modern landscapes and commercial terraces.
Step 2
The right size for your space
Size drives most of the price, so start with how many people you want to gather.
| Gathering | Typical size |
|---|---|
| 2 to 4 people | Compact, up to about 48″ |
| 4 to 6 people | Conversation set, about 48″–60″ |
| 6 to 10 people | Large sectional, about 60″–84″ |
| Pool edge or pillar | A fire bowl or fire & water bowl, sized to the pillar |
Step 3
Choosing a material and finish
GFRC concrete
Glass fiber reinforced concrete: the clean, architectural look of cast concrete with high strength and less weight. Natural, earthy tones.
GFRC wood grain
The warmth of real wood, without the upkeep — a realistic wood-grain texture cast into weather-resistant concrete.
Powder coat
A durable, smooth finish in a wide palette of colors, from gloss black to metallic veins. Ideal for modern, colorful designs.
Metal collection
Corten steel, stainless steel or hand-hammered copper for a bold, crafted look that stands out in any landscape.
Exact colors and finishes are confirmed with you before anything is built, so you never have to guess.
Step 4
Propane or natural gas?
Both work beautifully, and your burner is built to match your gas type so it arrives ready for your installer.
- Propane: runs from a tank, so no gas line is needed and you can place the fire almost anywhere.
- Natural gas: connects to your home’s gas supply for an endless flame. The line to the fire pit should be installed by a licensed professional.
Step 5
Choosing the ignition
Most models offer several ignition systems. In simple terms:
- Match lit: the simplest option. You light it by hand, and it needs no electricity.
- Electronic ignition: lights the flame at the push of a button. It needs a power source near the fire pit.
- Flame-sensing options: spark ignition with flame sensing for added convenience and peace of mind.
The available ignition systems are listed on each product page, and they’re ETL and CSA certified where applicable. Not sure which fits your setup? We’ll recommend one in your quote.
Step 6
Placement and clearances
Patios, pavers and pool decks are the most common spots. Wood or composite decks, rooftops and commercial terraces need extra attention to the manufacturer’s guidance — tell us where it will go and we’ll flag anything your installer should know.
Step 7
Budget, freight and timing
