What Is a Freestanding Grill?

A freestanding grill is a grill that stands on its own base, such as a cart, a cooking table or an all-in-one cabinet, so it needs no masonry island or countertop cutout. It suits patios, decks and terraces where you want serious cooking without a construction project.

This collection covers Artisan cart gas grills, Videl carts and cooking stations, a Santa Maria-style charcoal grill and a complete freestanding outdoor kitchen from Q-boo.

Artisan Cart Gas Grills

Each Artisan cart grill is the matching built-in grill head mounted on Artisan's stainless steel cart, and it ships fully assembled. All are made in the USA from commercial-grade 304 stainless steel and offered for LP or NG.

Videl Carts, Cooking Table & Santa Maria Grill

  • Grill Cart 36" – a mobile cart designed for a 36" grill, with dedicated prep space.
  • Griddle Cart 30" – a mobile cart designed to support a 30-inch griddle.
  • The Anza Cooking Table – two burners in a table-style station with a built-in prep and plating surface.
  • Brasa II – a freestanding Santa Maria and Argentinian-style grill for charcoal and wood, with a foldable side table and storage.

Q-boo OVO GL: A Complete Freestanding Outdoor Kitchen

The Q-boo OVO GL combines a three-burner propane grill (40,800 BTU total) in AISI 304 stainless steel, an integrated stainless steel sink and a Dekton® sintered stone countertop in one unit.

It is designed and engineered in Europe by Q-boo, a brand by Planika. At just under 7.5 feet wide, it runs on a standard 20 lb propane tank, with no custom installation.

How to Choose a Freestanding Grill

  • Fuel. Artisan carts come in LP or NG versions; the Q-boo OVO GL uses a 20 lb propane tank; the Brasa II burns charcoal and wood.
  • Size. Artisan grilling area, including the warming rack, is 570 sq in (26"), 719 sq in (32"), 818 sq in (36") and 966 sq in (42").
  • Power. American Eagle carts need no outlet. Artisan Series and Professional carts use 115V for ignition and lights.
  • Placement. Artisan cart grills need 12" from combustible materials at the sides and back and must not be used under an overhead combustible surface.
  • Add-ons. Artisan carts accept the ART-SB1 side burner with the ARTC-SBM-01 shelf mount, or the ARTP-SB2 double side burner with the ARTPC-SB2M kit.

Freestanding Grill FAQs

Do Artisan cart grills come assembled?

Yes. Artisan cart grills ship fully assembled, with the grill head already mounted on the stainless steel cart. They suit patios and decks where you want a freestanding grill instead of masonry work.

Is an Artisan cart grill the same as the built-in version?

Yes, each cart model uses the same grill head as its built-in twin. For example, the ART-36C is the ART-36 head on Artisan's matching cart, with the same three U-burners and 818 sq in of grilling area.

Can I add a side burner to a cart grill?

Yes. Artisan carts accept the ART-SB1 single side burner with the ARTC-SBM-01 shelf mount. The ARTP-SB2 double side burner mounts on an Artisan cart grill with the ARTPC-SB2M kit.

Where can I place a freestanding gas grill?

For Artisan cart grills, keep at least 12" from combustible materials at the sides and back, and never use the grill under an overhead combustible surface. Always check your local codes as well.

What fuel does the Q-boo OVO GL use?

The Q-boo OVO GL runs on propane from a standard 20 lb tank. Its three-burner grill delivers 40,800 BTU in total.
