Fire Pit With a Water Feature: 6 Fire and Water Ideas for Pools
Quick answer
There are two ways to get it. A fire & water bowl does both in one piece: a flame in the center and water pouring from the rim into a pool or basin. Or you pair a fire pit with a separate fountain or water bowl. Either way, the water needs a pool, pond or basin and a pump.

One piece or two?
A fire & water bowl is the cleanest look. The flame and the waterfall come from the same piece, so you plan one gas line, one water line and one spot.
Two pieces give you more freedom. A fire pit on the deck for sitting, and a fountain or water bowls where you want the sound of water. It also works if you already own a fire pit.
Quick comparison
- Fire & water bowl: one piece, needs a pool or basin right below it, best on a pool wall or pillar.
- Fire pit + fountain: two pieces, the fire pit can sit anywhere safe on the deck, the water can be on the pool wall or in its own basin.
6 fire and water ideas
1. A centerpiece that spills on every side
A bowl that pours water all around reads as a fountain by day and a fire feature at night. It stands in the pool or in a basin, on a pedestal, so the water falls back where it came from.

- Cazo 360° Fire & Water Bowl 48": water over the whole rim, 40,000 BTU, 18 GFRC colors at the same price. From $5,732.
- Sedona Fire & Water Pit 46" and 60": four 8" copper spillways and a 65,000 BTU center flame. From $6,610.
Prices as of November 2026.
2. A pair of bowls framing the pool
The most popular layout: two matching fire & water bowls on columns at the back of the pool or on both sides of the steps. They frame the view from the house and pour into the pool.

For modern pools, a linear bowl gives a wide sheet of water and a long line of fire. One centered on the back wall, or a row of them, works well on long rectangular pools.

Linear Maya Fire & Water Bowl, GFRC 48" x 20": from $4,707. Also in powder coat, stainless steel and hammered copper, up to 72" long.
4. Copper bowls by the spa
Hammered copper warms up a spa corner and ages to a deeper tone over time. A pair on columns beside a raised spa gives you fire and the sound of water right where you sit.

5. A fire pit on the deck, water on the wall
If you want a place to sit around the fire, keep the fire pit on the deck and put the water on the pool wall: scuppers, water bowls or fire & water bowls. Our fire pit next to a pool guide covers spacing and safety.

6. No pool? Use a basin
A fire & water bowl can pour into a reflecting pond or a built-in basin with a recirculating pump, in a courtyard or by the entrance. The basin catches the water and the pump sends it back up.
Plan with your contractor
- A basin big enough to catch the full sheet of water
- An overflow and a way to top up the water
- A spot for the pump that you can reach for service
What a fire and water feature needs
- A place for the water to land: the pool, a pond or a basin.
- A pump and a water line: from the pool circulation or a separate pump, sized by your pool builder.
- A gas line: natural gas or propane, run by a licensed gas pro.
- Power, only for electronic ignition: a transformer at least 5 feet from water on a GFCI circuit.
- A winter plan in freezing areas: drain the water lines before the first freeze and cover the bowl.
The full budget, from bowl to plumbing, is in our fire bowl installation cost guide. How match lit and electronic differ is on the ignition and wiring page.

Which idea fits your yard
- One big statement: a 360° Cazo or a Sedona fire & water pit.
- Classic and symmetrical: a pair of round or square bowls on columns.
- Long modern pool: one or more linear Maya bowls.
- Smaller budget: a 24" Cazo fire & water bowl, from $2,497.
- You want to sit around the fire: a fire pit on the deck plus water on the pool wall.

Ask for a quoteFrequently asked questions
Can you have a fire pit with a water feature without a pool?
Yes, as long as the water has somewhere to land. A fire & water bowl can spill into a pond, a fountain basin or a built-in reservoir with its own recirculating pump. Without a basin, choose a fire pit plus a separate fountain instead.
Does the water put out the flame?
No. On a fire & water bowl the burner sits in the center of the bowl and the water leaves through scuppers on the rim or over the outside edge, so the two never meet.
How much water flow does a fire and water feature need?
It depends on the model and how full you want the sheet of water. As one example, The Outdoor Plus spec sheet for the 46" Sedona fire & water pit lists 40 GPM through a 1 1/2" fitting. Your pool builder sizes the pump for your setup.
Is a fire and water bowl much more expensive than a fire bowl?
The bowl itself is only a little more. At our store the 24" Cazo GFRC fire & water bowl starts at $2,497, versus $2,024 for the fire-only version (prices as of November 2026). The bigger extra cost is the plumbing and pump for the water side.
Can I add water to a fire pit I already own?
Not to a standard fire pit. Fire pits are not built to hold or spill water. Add a separate fountain or water bowl next to it, or plan a fire & water bowl from the start.
